Medibank re-writes the rules on parental leave
Medibank re-writes the rules on parental leave FlexCareers Employer Partner Medibank introduces a new FamilyFlex policy to mark International Womenâs Day Riding the wave of Employer of Choice for Gender Equality 2018, Medibank are continuing to be trailblazers. Their new FamilyFlex policy does not disappoint. In recognising that every parent should have the same opportunity to play an active role in their childâs early life, Medibank is launching its new flexible paid parental leave policy. Our research has found 47% of primary carers in Australia receive no additional parental leave entitlements from their employer, instead relying on 18 weeks tax-payer funded parental leave at minimum wage. For secondary carers, the outlook is less positive, with only 25% offered additional leave. FlexCareers CEO Natalie Goldman said: âThe majority of employers in Australia continue to assume that women take responsibility for childcare, with parental leave entitlements structured accordingly. Weâre encouraged by several employers moving to language such as âshared careâ and generous paid leave for all parents. However, Medibank has taken this one step further, by offering all parents an equal number of weeks at their full salary.â So what is Medibank offering? All eligible prospective parents, regardless of whether theyâre the primary or secondary carer, will be able to take 14 weeks of paid leave within the first 24 months. This includes taking leave at the same time as your partner. This significant change sees Medibank leading the way nationally in encouraging equal and shared parenting responsibilities. Medibank Group Executive of People Culture Kylie Bishop said: âOur employees told us the old policy lacked flexibility, and didnât acknowledge that all families and babies are very different. So we are removing the labels of âprimaryâ and âsecondaryâ carer completely. Instead theyâre a parent.â The new policy, called âFamilyFlexâ, offers greater choice to new parents regardless of gender. Itâs also flexible parents can choose to take their 14 weeks leave across two different periods within the first 24 months. Under the previous policy, the primary carer would be eligible for 14 weeks paid leave in one block, and the secondary carer could only take two weeks of paid leave. Ms Bishop added: âBy expanding and renaming the policy, we hope more men will take it up, removing the stereotypes associated with caring for a new child. Many men donât feel comfortable asking for parental leave at all. We believe shared parenting can benefit the whole family.â In February 2017, Medibank set the industry standard introducing âFlexBetterâ offering all employees flexibility on how and where they can work. Last year, close to all employees returned from parental leave, with most still with Medibank a year later. Ms Bishop said: âWeâre proud that Medibankâs senior leadership group is split evenly between men and women. We donât want to lose any employees after they become parents, but we also need to ensure that our female leadership pipeline remains strong. If women who want to work are leaving because they need greater flexibility with starting or finishing times, then theyâre unable to progress with their career.â Medibank also provides external and confidential executive coaching to all new parents, ensuring they can still invest in their career when on leave. The Bitter and the Sweet of 50 - Kathy Caprino
The Bitter and the Sweet of 50 Today, I'm 50. While I surely observed it coming â" for a considerable length of time and years, obviously â" there's nothing very like awakening to the fact. (Those of you who are 50 know what I mean â" the individuals who aren't, you'll see!). 50 might be the new 30, however there is no denying that there are 50 years of experience â" delights, torment, disillusionments, triumphs and hard-earned living behind these eyeballs, ya dig? For my private festival, I went to the sea shore (my preferred spot on earth) and plunked down on the newly brushed sand to spend a bit me-time. I pulled out my sparkling new iPhone (much obliged, nectar!) to hear some out tunes, and this is the thing that I heard carefully drifting through my ear buds: I tasted, tasted love so sweet⦠I continued falling over I continued looking in reverse I became penniless accepting That the basic ought to be hard All we will be we are All we will be we are What's more, consistently's the beginning of something wonderful What's more, at long last words won't make any difference 'cause at long last nothing remains the equivalent Also, at long last dreams simply dissipate and fall like downpour⦠(from All We Are, Matt Nathanson) I truly like that. Sums it up well, wouldn't you say? I've discovered that the fantasies of our lives do dissipate â" blowing in the breeze like the gossamer seeds of blurring dandelions. But that doesn't mean we should quit having our dreams. Never. (Why? Since our fantasies launch us forward to where the extending is â" so we can really turn out to be throughout the entire we to be.) For me, 50 is bittersweet. It's carried with it: A profound, soul-felt appreciation for the endowments that are my loved ones An acknowledgment that where I am is spot on, despite the fact that it's surely not where I thought I'd be A huge number of dreams conceived and ran, at that point conceived once more. A sentiment of being console, adored and seen, in any event, when I'm in solitude A consistent chance to excuse and acknowledge myself notwithstanding my tremendous bumbles and stumbles Realizing that cherishing the extremely little things in life has the exceptionally huge effect among satisfaction and languishing Perceiving that life is immaculate defect â" a shrewdly planned excursion that motivates, pushes, extends, run trusts, manufacture dreams, and dangles the Carrot â" just to offer a sparkly new one to entice, the moment the past one is grabbed What's more, â" at long last, 50 has opened in me a status to be who I truly am. In this way, Happy Birthday to me â" and to you. Bring on the harshness and the sweet! I'm as of now seeing that 50 carries with it new dreams and alarming revelations. I'm ready. And may there be many, numerous cheerful returns for us all.

Why You Arent Getting an Interview with Your Resume
Why You Arenât Getting an Interview with Your Resume As with many of my clients, most people often feel like they are sending resumes to perfect job opportunities. But, they get discouraged quickly when they do not get call-backs for any interviews. Itâs frustrating and they start to believe that maybe they donât the correct skills and qualifications for todayâs job market. There could be many reasons why they arenât getting interviews; I can almost guarantee that SOME of it has to do with your resume. Reason #1 â" Your resume format is OLD. Maybe you havenât updated your resume since 1998 and the last time you applied for a job, you physically went to the place of employment and applied in-person. Today, that almost never happens as all companies post jobs on their company websites and/or third-party websites. If you have an Objective on your resume, still have the line, âReferences available upon request,â at the bottom, or are including any personal information, you may want to rethink your format. Donât waste space with an Objective or useless information; instead, focus on what you can do for the company and pertinent information that aligns with the job opportunity. Reason #2 â" You Arenât Including Key Words. Because you are applying online, the key words are your golden ticket to getting through the Applicant Tracking System (ATS). This means that your resume MUST contain the same words as the job posting. When you read through the job opening, look for the qualifications, knowledge, or responsibilities sections. Then, make sure those skill-sets are the same ones listed on your document. Obviously, donât include skills that you donât have or canât back-up during an interview; but, if you have to change Project Management to Project Leadership, then do it. Reason #3 â" You didnât proofread your resume. So, when a hiring manager or recruiter receives hundreds of resumes, they immediately start looking for a way to weed people outâ"they are NOT looking for a way to include more people as candidates. Be sure to review the document prior to sending it to prospective employers. Do NOT strictly rely on spell check or grammar check; instead, review it a couple of days after you have âfinishedâ it. Then, my recommendation is still to have a trusted friend or colleague review it for you. Often, someone else can more easily recognize our errors than we can. Donât let a spelling or grammar error move your resume to the NO pile. If you would like more resume tips, click HERE to download my number-one FREE offering!
